Forssell set for German move

CHELSEA striker Mikael Forssell is set to join German outfit Borussia Monchengladbach on loan.

The 21-year-old, who has been sidelined through injury for most of the Premiership campaign, is believed to be joining Monchengladbach until the end of the season.

Forssell made his return to action this week in the reserves following a long-term lay-off after a knee operation, and his move to Germany is subject to him passing a medical.

The Finnish international revealed that Gladbach were one of a number of clubs interested in signing him.

"I chose Monchengladbach from many candidates that wanted me," Forssell told Finnish news agency STT. "I know the team well and value its outstanding traditions.

"We have agreed on things with (Chelsea) manager Claudio Ranieri. After the loan period, I will move back to Chelsea."

Blues boss Ranieri is willing to loan out Forssell so that he can regain fitness by playing first-team football which he is unlikely to get at Stamford Bridge, with the impressive Carlton Cole nipping ahead of him in the pecking order for a place.

A spokesman for Gladbach confirmed that a 'number of striking targets' were being looked at, with key striker Arie van Lent injured, but would not unmask the identities of the targets.
