Seagulls to expand the Withdean

BRIGHTON & HOVE ALBION have been granted permission to increase the capacity of the Withdean Stadium by an additional 2,000 seats.

The local city council have allowed The Seagulls to expand the capacity of their current home, with expansion work likely to start in the summer.

Brighton chief executive Marin Perry told the club's official website that the additional seats will allow more supporters to watch matches until their new stadium at Falmer is built.

Perry said: "This extra capacity will help the club to survive in the Football League until Falmer is built and will provide the opportunity for supporters who until now have been unable to watch matches, to come to games.

"However, the Withdean Stadium still does not meet the requirements of The Football League and does not provide the conditions for watching football that our supporters deserve.

"We trust that following the public inquiry, we can move forward to a new modern stadium with facilities that are appropriate for a major city venue."

Meanwhile, midfielder Geoff Pitcher has joined Conference side Farnborough Town on a month's loan.

He spent a previous loan spell with fellow Conference club Dagenham & Redbridge earlier in the season.
