Scolari names first squad
Scolari (pictured) has dropped established stars Vitor Baia, Joao Pinto and Nuno Gomes, but has handed first calls to Porto striker Helder Postiga and Silas.
The latter is the Uniao Leiria midfielder who was targeted by both Sunderland and Leeds before the transfer window closed, but after seeing his move to England fall-through he is now set to sign for one of Portugal's big three (Sporting, Benfica or Porto).
Scolari has kept faith with Ricardo Rocha, Tiago and Pedro Mendes, after they were named by caretaker Agostinho Oliveira in previous squads - whilst there were also recalls for Marco Caneira and Jorge Andrade.
Scolari explained his reasoning behind his first selection and admitted that there was still room for players to be recalled.
"My criteria are to call the players whom I think are in the best form and those who can give what I want until Euro 2004," he said.
"To me, for this game, the two goalkeepers I have chosen are the best and that is why I have picked them but this does not mean that I won't call any of the absent players anymore.
"I have been watching some players more regularly but I preferred to watch those players who do not have that high a profile - the younger ones.
"I do not need to watch Luís Figo playing to know that he is good."
