Woody will not make speedy return

JONATHAN WOODGATE will not be making a high-profile and controversial appearance for Newcastle against former club Leeds United at Elland Road this season.

Woodgate's move has sparked off a storm at Leeds - and the player's return is sure to cause huge bad blood at the club, and amongst supporters who idolised the young defender.

However, as part of his big money transfer, Leeds made sure that the player would be left out of the game against them.

As it happens the player would probably have not been risked for the match, on February 22 - as he is coming back form a thigh injury.

The problems at Leeds saw demonstrations against the board after the FA Cup win against Gillingham, and a widespread call for the resignation of chairman Peter Ridsdale.

In the aftermath Leeds United have appointed a new non-executive director to the board - installing John Mckenzie.
