Leeds United 1 West Ham United 0

LEEDS UNITED pulled away from the relegation zone and increased West Ham's chances of going down following a hard-fought 1-0 win at Elland Road.

The tie was settled relatively early on with Seth Johnson, who almost signed for Middlesbrough, netting his first-ever goal for The Whites with a right-footed strike.

Both sides had chances to score before the break, however Paul Robinson was in superb form for Leeds whilst David James was riding his luck on occasions.

Joe Cole was ruing his luck shortly after the break when he saw his shot crash off the post with Robinson beaten all ends up.

Glenn Roeder must have felt it was not his day when Frederic Kanoute was shown the red card for an slap on the face for goal scorer Johnson.

A man short The Hammers struggled to create chances despite the late introduction of Jermain Defoe for veteran Italian striker Paolo Di Canio.
