Corradi the Azzurri hero
BERNARDO CORRADI proved the hero for Italy, as the Azzurri picked up a morale boosting 1-0 victory over Portugal.
The Lazio striker was only drafted into the squad as a late replacement for Christian Vieri, but took his chance with aplomb.
In a hard fought game Corradi grabbed the winner 62 minutes in, to the delight of a noisy home crowd.
Much of the pre-match talk had revolved around the inclusion of Mauro Camoranesi and exclusion of Roberto Baggio.
However coach Giovanni Trapattoni will be delighted to have beaten a tough Portugal side, and perhaps momentarily silence his critics in the Italian media.
