Samways stays in Spain

VINNY SAMWAYS has rejected the opportunity to move to England by prolonging his Spanish adventure.

The former Tottenham and Everton midfielder has rejoined his former club, Las Palmas, on a short-term contract that will run until the end of the season.

At 34, it was claimed that the player would look to return to his homeland, with Walsall front-runners to land his signature, after confirming they had been in talks with an "experienced" star over the past couple of days.

As the transfer window is closed in La Liga, any move within Spain seemed impossible for Samways, but an injury to youngster Alex Castro has allowed Las Palmas to receive special dispensation to snap him up.

The Gran Canaria outfit were relegated from the top flight last season.

A move to Cordoba collapsed for the ex-Spur after he left Sevilla in February, but he will be pleased to rejoin Las Palmas, where he spent six enjoyable years.
