Emerson warning for Roma

ROMA midfielder Emerson has warned the club that he may leave if they fail to sign any big-name players during the summer.

The Brazilian international is bitterly disappointed with Roma's poor showing this season, as they currently sit in ninth place in the Serie A table with hardly any chance of winning the title now.

Fabio Capello's side are also struggling in the Champions League and are without a win in the second group stage and look to be heading out of that competition.

With their season looking like it is already over, fans of the capital side are demanding that the club bring in some big-name additions to the squad to challenge for honours next season.

Emerson has warned the club that he may consider leaving the Stadio Olimpico if there are no top quality signings made.

"I want to play in a team with big players, because only high level players give a new stimulus to those who are already in the group," Emerson told Italian TV.

"I've got a contract with Roma until 2005, but I can't guarantee that I'll stay until the end.

"In football anything is possible and then contracts have to be respected by both parties.

"I could stay in a reshaped Roma, sure, but we have to see about what players you're talking about.

"If you mean young champions like De Rossi, for example, I can understand, otherwise this hypothesis doesn't work for me.

Emerson was also talking about life after Capello when he eventually leaves the club, saying he would like to see Arsene Wenger take charge.

"I like Arsene Wenger a lot," said the Samba star. "But it's not right talking about other names now.

"When we played against Arsenal the difference between them and us was evident - they probably had a better game plan."
