Freund hits out at Spurs
The tenacious German midfielder, something of a cult hero among the Spurs faithful, is leaving the North Londoners in the summer when his current contract expires.
Although Freund was keen to sign a new deal, he has revealed there have not been any discussions or offer forthcoming from Spurs.
"I played a lot of games and had a chat with the manager in his office," he declared.
"It was very hard for me when he told me they won't renew the contract, and it was hard for me to take.
"I was shocked for the first moment, it only took one minute, as he said it was a financial problem and that is why I have to leave the club.
"But I have to say that is not the truth as they have to give me an offer.
"I know I have a big contract and I can take a pay-cut but, if they don't give me a contract, it is not possible to sign one with me.
"For me, that is the answer - the personal problem with me because the financial point is not for me - you have to give me an offer and then we can sort it out."
The 33-year-old seems a little perplexed as to why he has fallen out of favour with Hoddle although, realistically, it is perhaps easy to understand why the former England boss is willing to lose some of his elder professionals.
"It was the manager's decision to say we won't renew," he told Sky Sports.
"I'm very disappointed. I want to tell the supporters what has happened.
"I am fit and have never been injured since my comeback against Cardiff. I've always been available for the club, and it's time to tell the supporters what has happened."
