Caniggia wants Argentina call-up

RANGERS striker Claudio Caniggia believes he can still perform for Argentina - and called for his inclusion in the national squad for the Copa America.

The veteran striker insists he is serious about continuing to represent his nation - despite disappointment in the World Cup.

"I'm not joking," said Caniggia. "Why can't I play for Argentina in the Copa America?

"I can see the chance is small but it is not impossible and I am in good shape.

"I know the events of the World Cup make things difficult but that was last time and I would still like to bow out after playing in an important event.

"I feel I am capable of playing two games a week.

"I never said I wanted to retire and I never gave a date when I would hang up my boots.

"I am feeling good and if Marcelo Bielsa wants to call me into his squad I would go swimming back to Argentina."
