Samuel - No deal, but I want to stay
The Argentine ace is rated as one of the best defenders in the world and was the most expensive ever, when Roma paid Boca Juniors £13 million for him in 2000.
He has since performed well for Roma, helping them to the Scudetto in 2001.
Real Madrid have been linked with a possible move and general manager Jorge Valdano admitted an admiration for the player.
However, Roma's asking price is always likely to deter most bidders and he is still under contract until 2006.
Roma are looking to tie Samuel down, but the Argentine has denied reports that he has already penned a new contract.
"I have not signed a renewal of my contract," he said.
"About talking with the club, that is something my agent is occupied with.
"What I can say is that it would please me to stay in Rome."
