Hoekstra hopes to rule Britannia for longer

FORMER Dutch international Peter Hoekstra hopes his brace against Watford at the weekend will be enough to urge Stoke City boss Tony Pulis to give him a new deal.

The former Ajax ace's double was enough to lift the Potteries side out of the relegation places in Division One and the player says he now hopes to extend his stay at the Britannia Stadium beyond this summer when his current deal expires.

"I'll be out of contract in the summer, but I am happy at Stoke and I'd like to stay," said Hoekstra.

"The manager has said he wants me to stay, but we will have to wait and see at the end of the season."

In other news, Stoke skipper Peter Handyside says he is resigned to leaving the club at the end of the season.

The 28-year-old is also out-of-contract at the end of the season and says he has not been approached by the club over a new deal.
