Dragons trial young Saint

WREXHAM have taken Welsh Under-19 international Matthew Crowell on a week-long trial.

The 18-year-old midfielder is currently with Premiership side Southampton but has been on a number of trials at lower league clubs.

Crowell played for Bristol City reserves last week but will now try his luck with The Red Dragons when he turns out for their second string against Stoke City on Wednesday.

The former Swansea starlet has been recommended to Wrexham boss Denis Smith by Saints youth officer Malcolm Elias, who took him from Vetch Field when he left the Swans.

Smith will now run the rule over him during the week before deciding if he wants to offer him an extended stay at The Racecourse Ground.

Crowell is coming to the end of his third year with Southampton's academy and is looking to get regular first team action.
