Heskey doubtful for Turkey clash

LIVERPOOL star Emile Heskey is doubtful for England's Euro 2004 qualifier with Turkey next week after picking up a knee injury against Liechtenstein.

Heskey limped off in the second half to be replaced by Wayne Roooney after picking up a knock, and he faces a race against time to be fit for the crucial game with Turkey on Wednesday.

England boss Sven Goran Eriksson admitted that Heskey's knee injury was not looking too good.

"Steven Gerrard and David Beckham were both excellent. I took them off for two reasons - as we are playing again on Wednesday and because they would have been suspended for that game if they had got booked," said Eriksson.

"My plan was to take off Paul Scholes, who was in the same situation, but unfortunately Emile Heskey got a knock on his knee which became worse and worse. That's why I took him off instead."
