Favalli: Go fourth and prosper

LAZIO'S Giuseppe Favalli has admitted that the side are out of the title race in Serie A, but insists that they will secure a top four spot and qualify for the Champions League.

Favalli has been impressive this season, in which Roberto Mancini has shaken off the shackles of near-financial ruin to engineer a morale boosting campaign - and the club are still battling for Uefa Cup and Coppa Italia glory.

"We can look back at a lot of matches we should have won and have some regrets," conceded Favalli.

"The points between us and the top of the table are too big to think we could still win the Scudetto.

"We have to concentrate on fourth place - and the opportunity to play in the Champions League.

"We are looking to get through to the Uefa Cup final - morale is good and we think we have every chance of winning the competition.

"As for the Coppa Italia - we'll give everything on the pitch."

Favalli reserved special praise for Mancini, who has done such a sterling job in difficult circumstances.

"I'm not surprised that big teams are looking at Mancini - he's worked miracles this season.

"He is a reference point to all of us - and I am confident that he will stay here with us for next season."
