Chilavert fires Roberto Carlos broadside

PARAGUAYAN goalkeeper Jose Luis Chilavert has hit out at Roberto Carlos, claiming the Real Madrid star should receive a hefty punishment for his dismissal against Portugal.

Chilavert insists the Brazilian merits severe treatment for his push on Israeli official Alon Yefet, and added that the full back was 'no saint'.

"(Brazil) consider themselves owners of the world," said the custodian.

"In the Portugal - Brazil game this man (Roberto Carlos) who is supposedly a saint hit the referee with his left shoulder and they could suspend him for two games."

Chilavert believes there are double standards when it comes to disciplinary matters, referring back to a four-game ban he received following a South American qualifier against Brazil in the run-up to the 2002 World Cup finals.

"I received a four-game ban despite not having threatened any referee.

"The laws always seem to protect the weakest and this has been demonstrated."
