Pavon in Beckham blast

REAL MADRID defender Francisco Pavon has insisted he is more worried by the threat posed by Ryan Giggs than by the Spaniards' reported summer transfer target David Beckham.

The Real youth product claims that Giggs has more facets to his game than the England skipper, and will present 'los meringues' with more problems when the two sides meet in their Champions League quarter final next week.

"I like Ryan Giggs more than Beckham because he has more depth in his game," said the 23-year-old.

"He's more skilful with the ball at his feet and maybe Beckham is a bit limited by only playing on the wing and sending over crosses to the strikers.

"Maybe he could play well in central midfield, because he moves the ball well.

"He's a bit tied down on the wing and he doesn't have a real burst of speed to get away from a full-back such as Roberto Carlos. Giggs is more difficult because he is faster."

Pavon went on to pay tribute to the Premiership giants, acknowledging they would provide a stern test for Real as they bid to retain Europe's elite trophy.

However, the centre back remained adamant that Vicente del Bosque's men had sufficient quality to progress.

"Their (Manchester United) attacking football is very dangerous, they are a team full of quality players and Beckham, van Nistelrooy and Giggs are quality players, they are fast and can score a goal at any moment.

"But we are without doubt the best team in the world, we are the reigning Champions League, Intercontinental Cup and European Super Cup holders and I think we have the best players in our squad," he concluded.
