Hierro unconcerned over Beckham rumours

VETERAN Real Madrid star Fernando Hierro says he loses no sleep when he hears rumours of David Beckham coming to the Spanish capital.

The England captain has been the subject of much speculation in recent weeks about linking up with Hierro at the Santiago Bernabeu but the Spaniard would not be drawn into commenting on rumours about the Old Trafford star's future.

"The talk of him does not concern me," said Hierro.

"It would be pleasing to have more great players here.  But I do not lose a second of sleep when thinking about Beckham coming though," said Hierro.

The classy Spanish international says there are too many other good players in the Manchester United side to just focus on Beckham, ahead of the Champions League quarter final clash next week.

"Manchester United are a great team," added Hierro.

"It is not going to be easy but I would always make Madrid favourites for any match but they are a team that deserves a lot of respect.

"Manchester is not only about Beckham.  They have other big players that are among the best in Europe."

Hierro also took the chance to praise Paolo Maldini for his loyalty and dedication to Serie A giants Milan.

The Italian legend has just signed a new contract that will ensure his playing days end where they started at the Giuseppe Meazza.

"Maldini is and always has been Milan. For me he is an example.

"Players like that who have been with one club for many years in an elite league and giving extraordinary performances deserve a pot of gold for their actions."
