Charlton 1 Leeds 6

LEEDS UNITED went goal crazy at Charlton Athletic to ease their relegation fears with a stunning 6-1 success.

Peter Reid saw his hopes of getting the job permanently rise considerably after a tremendous team display with Harry Kewell, Alan Smith and Mark Viduka running riot.

The game kicked off 17 minutes late but Leeds were soon into their stride with Viduka and Smith helping to set up Kewell for the opener on 12 minutes. A foul by Richard Rufus on Smith allowed Ian Harte to double the lead from the penalty spot.

Viduka pounced on a Smith header to drill in a third but there was still time in a pulsating first half for Lucas Radebe to foul Scott Parker inside the box, and Jason Euell converted the spot-kick to make it 1-3.

Paul Robinson made an astounding stop to keep out Parker, and it proved important as Viduka netted again soon afterwards, after more fine work by Smith.

When the lively Smith was up-ended by Luke Young, Viduka was allowed the chance to take the third penalty of the game in order to complete his hat-trick, which he gleefully accepted.

Kewell rounded things off with a stunning solo effort, and it could have been worse for Charlton as Viduka hit the bar late on, after Jason Wilcox rounded Dean Kiely.
