Barca hold Juve

BARCELONA put themselves in pole position to reach the semi-finals of the Champions League after coming from behind to snatch a 1-1 draw at Juventus.

The Italians were the better side in the first-half and took a deserved lead through Paolo Montero.

However, Juve sat back and played on the break in the second-half, which invited Barca forward, and the Catalans grabbed a deserved equaliser through Javier Saviola.

With a priceless away goal in the bag, Raddy Antic will be looking for his side to clinch a semi-final berth at Camp Nou in a fortnight.

Pavel Nedved and Alessandro Del Piero were prominent in the opening period and it was Marcello Lippi`s attacking duo that had a hand in the opener on 15 minutes.

Nedved`s cross found Del Piero who forced Roberto Bonano into a save. The ball bounced to Montero and he showed great composure for a centre half to stroke his shot high into the net.

Juve had chances to kill the game, with both Edgar Davids and Del Piero going close, but Barca took control of the game as the match wore on.

A neat pass from Patrick Kluivert freed Saviola and his shot dribbled past Gianluigi Buffon with the aid of a deflection.

Barca almost snatched victory ten minutes from time, but Buffon demonstrated why he is Italy`s number one with a fantastic low save from Kluivert.

Juve finally came out of their shell and should have won the game, but substitute Marco Di Vaio shot wide when clean through in injury-time.
