Mahe flys home

HEARTS manager Craig Levein has revealed that veteran defender Stephane Mahe has retired from football and returned to France.

Mahe has been plagued by injuries this term, including a serious Achilles tendon injury back in August.

The former Celtic man will now begin to pass on his experience to others, after accepting a coaching position in France.

During Mahe's spell at Celtic Park, the former Auxerre and PSG man won the League Championship and also the League Cup twice.

"It's sad that Stephane is leaving but it has now reached the stage where a succession of injuries are handicapping him from playing at the top level for very much longer," said Levein.

"He's going to take up a coaching post with a team in the lower division in France."
