Kapo confirmed as United target
The French youngster has been watched by Sir Alex Ferguson, along with team-mates Philippe Mexes and Djibril Cisse, as Auxerre continue to attract admiring glances from across the Channel.
There are some suggestions that the financial details of a deal have already been ironed out between United and the French club, and Kapo has actually visited Old Trafford to look around the facilities.
"Manchester is a serious track but they are situated among others," stated agent John-Jacques Bertrand, who worked as Eric Cantona's lawyer during the legend's stay in England.
French international striker Kapo has previously admitted a desire to play for Arsenal, and Arsene Wenger is another admirer of his talents, but United are now leading the chase for his signature.
As he is out of contract in 2004, Guy Roux knows he will need to sell the 22-year-old soon in order to obtain a sizeable sum.
"For the moment, I have priorities other than my transfer," commented Kapo.
"There are important dates with Auxerre that I do not want to spoil."
Ferguson views the speedy youngster as an attacking option, although his top target is Ronaldinho and Sunderland's David Bellion is also expected to become a United player. The Scot has been busy identifying potential recruits as he looks to bring in new blood during the close season.
Auxerre know they face a real struggle to hang onto a number of their young jewels.
Central defender Mexes remains a long-term target for United and a string of top clubs, while powerful attacker Cisse continues to be linked with Liverpool and Marseille.
Liverpool are also keen on defender Jean Alain Boumsong, after his impressive performances against them in the Uefa Cup this season.
The classy stopper is also out of contract in 2004, and a firm bid from Gerard Houllier is expected in the summer.
