Agent confirms United Quaresma interest

THE agent of Sporting Lisbon winger Ricardo Quaresma has confirmed that Manchester United have made an offer for his client.

Jorge Mendez claims that negotiations between the two parties are to begin shortly over a deal that could see the 19-year-old arrive at Old Trafford for next season.

"Manchester United's interest is certain," declared Mendez.

"They are our first option if a transfer happens, but, ultimately, the decision rests with Sporting.

"For us there will not be any problems."

Mendez has stated that the Old Trafford outfit plan to offer Quaresma a four-year contract, but accepts that the Premiership giants have yet to make a formal offer to Sporting.

However, coach of the Lisbon-based club, Laszlo Boloni, admits that he is prepared for the Portuguese Under-21 international to leave the club.

"I would not want to have Quaresma taken from me, but I understand that the club needs money and could benefit from his transfer," said the Romanian coach.

A host of Spanish clubs, including Deportivo La Coruna, Atletico Madrid and Barcelona, are also believed to be tracking the gifted youngster.

Italian giants Internazionale are firm admirers of his talents but United will be hoping to use their special relationship with Sporting in order to secure the purchase of a player who is tipped to succeed Luis Figo as Portugal's major talent.
