Fernandez ready to take Alfonso decision
The Spanish international hit-man is on loan at the Seville-based outfit from Barcelona until the end of the season, and has recently made a return to first team action after injury.
Fernandez claims though that his decision on Alfonso's future at Betis will not be swayed by how he performs until the end of the season.
"My opinion will not be changed by the fact that in the coming games he might do very well or badly," said the former Celta coach.
"My decision has been made entirely on the evidence that he has given me throughout the season in the form of his attitude, work, behaviour and performance.
"My opinion is defined, it won't be changed by details in the final few games.
"When a coach reaches a conclusion about a footballer, it is based largely on his performance and what he can offer in the future. That is the law of football."
However, Fernandez conceded he had yet to make his feelings on Alfonso known to Betis president Manuel Ruiz de Lopera so as not to distract either the player or his team-mates.
"Fortunately we have yet to talk because there are still many important things left for us to do this season," he added.
"Thus we have not begun to plan the team for next season, as regards signings and loans, as I don't want to distract the team.
"There is still time until June 30th, but we will take the decision before then."
