West Brom 0 Liverpool 6
Albion already know that they are going to be playing their football in the First Division next season, and will not have been buoyed by manager Gary Megson's admission before the game that he felt Liverpool could rack up six against them.
Megson's worst fears manifested themselves on the day, with Liverpool's passing and pace ripping his defence to shreds - with Owen the major thorn in their side.
The England international had already notched his 99th Premiership goal in the first half, slamming home superbly after being fed by Danny Murphy but it was after the break that The Reds really hit top gear.
Milan Baros doubled the advantage two minutes into the second half converting a Steven Gerrard cross, and El Hadji Diouf provided Owen with a pass that gave him his century of top-flight goals 60 seconds later.
With West Brom's heads dropping, Owen grabbed his hat-trick on the hour mark when Baros laid the ball back, and then notched his fourth of the game on 67.
Baros then scored a deserved second, with Gerrard again the provider to wrap up a wonderful day for Liverpool and Owen, that put them within one point of third place with two games remaining.
