Fulham keeper wants van Gaal
Van Gaal was reportedly interviewed for the vacant post on Tuesday when Fulham directors headed to Amsterdam for discussions.
The former Holland national team boss is believed to be keen on succeeding Jean Tigana at the helm, although his financial demands will be a serious consideration regarding any job offer.
With The Cottagers undergoing a cost-cutting exercise, they can ill-afford to splash out big money on a lucrative contract for their new manager.
Van Gaal has been out of work since leaving Barcelona for the second time in January and would be an experience appointment for the Premiership strugglers.
Towering keeper Van der Sar, who worked with van Gaal at Ajax and in the national set-up, admits it would be 'fantastic' if the duo were reunited in the capital.
"I think they will want an experienced manager," said Van der Sar. "I have had a lot of phone calls from Holland about van Gaal.
"It would not only be fantastic for me but for the whole club. If he comes, it is a positive thing for the development in every area.
"I haven't spoken to him for half a year and also none of the directors have asked me about him.
"We had a lot of success together with Ajax, although with Holland it was a little bit less. It was a combination of bad luck and players not being on form."
