Geremi deal could prevent Boro spending

MIDDLESBROUGH manager Steve McClaren has admitted that signing Real Madrid midfielder Geremi could have a major bearing on his other transfer plans for the summer.

McClaren may have to shell out more than £8 million to try and land the Cameroonian star, who has been in a lynch-pin in Boro's midfield since arriving in the summer.

Geremi has yet to indicate himself what he wants to do, but Real have stressed that he could be welcomed back at El Santiago Bernabeu.

The African star is obviously not McClaren's only summer transfer target, but he could swallow a vast a mount of his budget - and that may force him to look elsewhere.

"It's one of a series of deals, but it's high on the agenda," said McClaren.

"At the present moment, he's here and a lot depends on whether we sign him or not."
