Ameobi to aid Toon coffers
The England Under-21 international has played a bit-part for the Toon Army this term but has still bagged eight goals and was raised just a few hundred yards away from St James' Park.
With Alan Shearer out for the Geordies' final two games of the season with a fractured ankle, Ameobi says he is prepared to take on the responsibility of funding Sir Bobby Robson's transfer kitty for next term, claiming he will be as relaxed as ever.
"I go into each game in exactly the same way," said the lanky forward.
"Try to be cool and collected and think about your game and just make sure you give it your absolute best every time.
"We are a very young side and we have found Europe an amazing experience which can only help us.
"That's why we have to get there again. Oh, and the money would keep the chairman pretty happy as well.
"Alan's injury is a real blow for him, but it gives me a great chance to show the boss and supporters that there is life after him, that we have good players who can come in and do a job when the first-choice people are out.
"I would obviously like to get my chance in different circumstances but I'll take it whatever way it comes and show the Newcastle fans that I can play."
The skilful front-man has had to content himself with life on the bench due to the formidable partnership both Shearer and Craig Bellamy have formed but Ameobi insisted the Newcastle captain has helped his career although he is hindering his first-team appearances.
"Alan has been superb with me throughout my career as he is always giving me advice and help and he has had a few words with me about the upcoming games," added Ameobi.
"It's something I appreciate because he has been there, seen it and done it and so you can't have a better role model.
"If you don't take in advice from someone like Alan you don't belong in this game."
