Viana looks to wide role

NEWCASTLE'S Portuguese starlet Hugo Viana is keen to be played on the left wing, a role he insists suits him far more than the central role.

The 20-year-old was brought to the club as a wide-man and is keen to prove himself worthy of a starting berth on the left side of mdfield.

Viana capped a fine display against Birmingham with the winning goal that handed The Magpies the third Champions League qualification spot, and is now looking to an exciting future.

"I hope to get more chances to play in my best position next season," said Viana. "I feel I can offer much more there.

"I've always done what I can to follow Sir Bobby Robson's instructions, but I believe I am now a much more experienced player, with another way of seeing things.

"I now have a different approach to football.

"I have got over all my injuries.

"This season has ended up better than we had hoped for and I think we exceeded expectations."
