Valencia reach Lopez agreement

VALENCIA have clinched a deal to bring Argentine striker Claudio Lopez back to the club.

The Primera outfit have reached agreement with Italian club Lazio and a fee of around ‚é¼6 million (£4 million) has been agreed for the 28-year-old.

The sum will be taken off the outstanding debt that the Serie A giants still owe Valencia from the transfer of Gaizka Mendieta.

The only problem still to be ironed out in the deal is the money owed to Lopez by Lazio.

The player claims to be due some ‚é¼2 million (£1.3 million) in unpaid wages and signing on fees, and his agent Fernando Hidalgo insists his client will not leave before he receives all of the outstanding sum.

However, Valencia remain confident that the problem can be solved, and have a verbal agreement with player that the issue will not scupper the deal.

Lopez had previously been strongly linked with a move to Manchester United but now looks certain to complete his return to La Liga.
