Stoke release captain

STOKE CITY have confirmed the release of five players, including captain Peter Handyside.

The Potters skipper has been told he will not be handed a new contract at The Britannia Stadium.

Along with Handyside, Lee Mills, Steve Banks, Bjarni Gudjonsson and Mark Williams have also been told their services will not be required.

However, the club have offered terms to six other players who are out-of-contract next month.

Peter Hoekstra, Brynjar Gunnarsson, Clive Clarke, James O'Connor, Marcus Hall and Brian Wilson have all been given the chance to extend their careers in the Potteries.
