Bayern plot Schneider swoop
The German international will be able to leave the BayArena for free in the summer if his club are relegated from Die Bundesliga.
Schneider's contract with Bayer becomes invalid if last season's Champions League runners-up suffer the ignominy of the drop from the top-flight.
Bayer have just two games to secure their Bundesliga status and have a two-point deficit to make up on relegation rivals Arminia Bielefeld.
German champions Bayern are keen to bolster their squad to launch a serious challenge for the Champions League next term after strolling to the Bundesliga title.
The Bavarian giants' supremo Uli Hoeness admits Bayern would be in the hunt for Schneider if he can quit the club.
Hoeness said: "If Bernd Schneider comes on the market, then we will be interested."
If Bayern do launch a swoop for Schneider it will be the second summer in succession that the club have raided Bayer after capturing Michael Ballack and Ze Roberto 12 months ago.
