Bayern say it's Makaay or no-one

BAYERN MUNICH chief executive Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has said the club will not be moving for Fernando Morientes, claiming their summer forward signing will either be Deportivo La Coruna`s Roy Makaay or nobody.

The German titans cruised to the Bundesliga title this term, but their season was soured by exit from the Champions League at the first group stage.

Despite still having the chance to lift the domestic double in Germany, Bayern appear to be looking towards next season.

Much has been said about potential arrivals in the summer, with coach Ottmar Hitzfeld saying Makaay is his number one option.

However, the waters were muddied over the weekend when Bayern legend and supervisory board chairman Franz Beckenbauer said they would go for Real Madrid bit-part player Morientes if they could not land Makaay.

Rummenigge has now entered the debate, saying it will either be Makaay arriving or Hitzfeld will have to make do with the squad at his disposal.

"It`s Makaay or no one," Rummenigge told tz.

"Makaay is the only striker we have any interest in signing.

"If we cannot have him, we will not settle for Morientes or any other player.

"We have masses of attacking talent, so it will be Makaay or no one."

Rummenigge is also quoted in other sections of the German media as saying Depor president Augusto Cesar Lendoiro does not yet know if they will sell Makaay.

Dutch international Makaay has been in sparkling form for Depor, who are now in pole position to clinch the Liga title, and it remains to be seen if he wants to swap Galicia for Bavaria.
