Injury boost for Torino

TORINO have been boosted by the news that highly-rated midfielder Frederico Balzaretti will not require knee surgery.

Balzaretti was injured during last weekend's defeat at Roma and Torino feared the 21-year-old would face a prolonged spell on the sidelines.

The midfield starlet underwent a scan on Tuesday to discover the extent of the damage after jarring his knee.

But tests showed Balzaretti did not seriously damage his ligaments and will only a require a month's rest.

The injury will rule the youngster out of the final two Serie A games of the season but he will be fit for Torino's push for a return to the top-flight next term.

Balzaretti has made 15 appearances for Torino this term but the club have failed to stave off relegation and will require the midfielder's presence for a promotion tilt next season.
