QPR in final Furlong

QPR ensured their place in the Division Two play-off final, with Paul Furlong scoring the crucial winner in a 1-0 victory against Oldham Athletic.

Oldham went into the game knowing that they had to score to progress having conceded an all-important away goal to QPR, but on the night it was only the home side that broke the deadlock.

Although the game was soured somewhat by the sending off of Oldham's Wayne Andrews for an unsavoury incident, it was the 82nd minute breakthrough by Furlong that decided the game.

Committed performances from both sides meant the game was on a knife-edge throughout, and it always looked likely a single goal would make the difference.

The breakthrough goal came from nowhere, with just eight minutes left on the clock, when Clarke Carlisle picked out Furlong from deep.

The former Birmingham City striker made no mistake from six yards out, slotting home to start the celebrations from the home crowd.

Oldham did everything to get back in the game, but Andrews did a little too much after a clash with Stephen Kelly, and received his marching orders.

QPR will face Cardiff in the final.
