Spurs in talks over Viduka

EXCLUSIVE
TOTTENHAM are interested in signing Leeds United striker Mark Viduka after holding talks with the player's agent.

The Australian's agent Andrea D'Amico has revealed to planetfootball.com that he met with Spurs chairman Daniel Levy to talk about a possible move to White Hart Lane.

Spurs are in the market for a new striker, having released Teddy Sheringham, and it is believed that Viduka is top of Glenn Hoddle's wanted list.

D'Amico admitted that the player was happy at Leeds, but that he could move for the right offer with a number of clubs chasing his services.

"Yes I have met with Daniel Levy of Tottenham," D'Amico told planetfootball. "We had a general meeting about Mark.

"There are many clubs that are interested in Mark all across Europe.

"There is interest from Italy, England and Spain and I think the transfer market will be different from last year as he will be cheaper.

"Mark in my opinion is one of the best strikers in Europe."

Viduka could be sacrificed by Leeds in the summer as they look to ease their financial problems, but D'Amico revealed he would only leave for a big club.

"Mark is in Australia now and before he left he told me he doesn't want to leave Leeds, but it may be in the interest of Leeds that he leaves," added D'Amico.

"If it is in the interest of the club to think of the future, they may decide to sell Viduka.

"If he were to go it would have to be a good offer and a big club.

"Mark is an interesting player and he would like to go to a good club if he was to leave.

"Roma are still interested in him and they are one of the options for him.

"We will wait and see what is on offer and I will meet with Leeds chairman John McKenzie to discuss the future."

Leeds supremo McKenzie has reacted with surprise at the reports, insisting the powerful centre forward is not for sale.

"We've had no approach for Mark Viduka from Spurs or any other club," McKenzie told the club`s website.

"I am surprised to hear the claims of talks between an agent and Spurs because if this is true it would clearly constitute an illegal approach.

"Anyway, our position is that Mark Viduka is not for sale."
