English players still barred by Bafana
Mashaba has had a number of high profile clashes with English-based players and this has seen his attitude towards The Premiership become dimmer and dimmer.
The South African Football Association (SAFA) were understood to be keen on calling up some of their English-based players, but they are still officially banned after refusing to travel to Spain in March for a training camp.
Lucas Radebe, Mark Fish and Shaun Bartlett were all suspended from international duty, with the SAFA due to rule on their careers.
Mashaba explained at the time he would not call them and he has been true to his word.
Radebe had hoped to use the game to mark his international retirement, but Mashaba has now quashed those hopes - although some South African sources have claimed he could yet play in the showcase game next week.
Manchester United's Quinton Fortune is still classed as injured after withdrawing from the recent squad against Jamaica, claiming he could not travel with a hip problem.
However, South African officials have told planetfootball.com that Fortune could still play if United pass him fit this weekend.
The SAFA were desperate to have the likes of Fortune and Radebe playing for the event, which helps launch their campaign to host the 2010 World Cup, but Mashaba has seemingly got his wish to name his own squad.
Mashaba, nicknamed 'Shakes', then began to slam England captain David Beckham and likened him to his own midfielder Tyrone Arendse - who is yet to win a cap for Bafana Bafana.
"Why do we lack so much confidence in our own product?" Mashaba said.
"Why is it that nobody respects Bafana Bafana? In addition, if I may ask, what is the difference between David Beckham and Tyrone Arendse?
"To me, beside the fact that Beckham is paid in pounds while Arendse earns rands, there is very little difference between the two players. Arendse can bend and swing crosses the same way that Beckham does for Manchester United.
"The English national squad is selected from players who feature on a daily basis for their clubs in the English Premier League. Therefore, what is wrong with our players who play in the South African Premier League?
"I have been reading reports that England are taking this game seriously due to the fact that they are preparing for the Uefa Euro 2004 qualifiers against Slovakia, well and good.
"But, does that imply that we are not taking this game seriously or what? Are we also not using this game to fine-tune our own squad for the African Nations Cup qualifiers against Ivory Coast and Burundi for the finals in Tunisia?
"When former president Nelson Mandela announced back in 1994 that we have won our freedom to live in harmony where no one would be judged according to the colour of his skin anymore, we went into a certain honeymoon as far as celebrating our independence was concerned.
"You can imagine my shock and utter dismay the other day when I was in Cape Town for the friendly match against Jamaica, as I listened to a programme on a national radio station and the radio host asked his audience: 'If Quinton Fortune is not here, do you think the coloured folk will come to this game?'
"That is the type of mentality prevailing in our society today. That is the type of stereotypes we have to deal with every day. I have been given a job to do as national coach. I will do everything in my power to ensure that I do it to the best of my abilities."
Mashaba named a 22-man party for the game next week, with the possible additions of Copenhagen's Sibusiso Zuma and Delron Buckley of Bochum, but the former has already been ruled out by his club.
"Zuma will not go anywhere, because they have no rights to get him released," said Copenhagen sporting director Niels-Christian Holmstrom.
"That match between South Africa and England has no importance whatsoever from a sporting point of view.
"It is a showcase in connection with the promotion of the South African bid to host the World Cup in 2010.
"I am sure their talents as organisers can be judged without Zuma being on the pitch."
Of the 22, six (Moeneeb Josephs, Tyren Arendse, Benson Mhlongo, Jabulani Mendu, David Radebe and Carlo Scott) are uncapped.
