Desailly reveals quit plans

CHELSEA captain Marcel Desailly has revealed he will hang up his boots at the end of next season.

The 34-year-old will spend one more year at Stamford Bridge before calling an end to his illustrious career.

The French international feels the time will be right to call it quits when his contract expires after a long, hard career.

"I will definitely end my career after 2004," said Desailly.

"I have had a long, hard career. I need to do other things and take a break."

Despite qualifying for next season's Champions League, Desailly believes Chelsea have had a disappointing campaign.

"We could have done better because we had the means of challenging for the title," added Desailly.

"But we badly negotiated some matches and it did us a lot of damage."
