Dunn shuns Rovers talks
The outstanding 23-year-old clashed with Rovers boss Graeme Souness earlier this season, after the former Liverpool boss insinuated his private life was affecting his play.
Dunn, denied that strenuously at the time, and he is still believed to be barely on speaking terms with Souness.
His form, though, improved dramatically at the turn of the year and he was unlucky not to be involved with England this summer.
Souness has now revealed that Dunn has shunned talks with the club, with just two years left on his current deal.
"There was no mention of the length of contract or money," said Souness.
"John Williams [chief executive] simply asked him if he was prepared to sign a new deal and he said 'no' and that was the end of it."
Souness denied claims that Dunn was given a 'take it or leave it' ultimatum by the club.
"That's totally unfair," he opined.
"No-one has told him he has to leave at all.
"What we have done is ask him if he would be willing to sign a new contract and he's said 'no' he won't.
"So the reality is we've offered him an extension. I'm under no pressure to make a decision.
"I want him in the squad for next year and it will be in everyone's interests if he starts next season here and does well for us.
"We'd be very reluctant sellers if it ever came to losing David Dunn," he told The Lancashire Evening Telegraph.
"We've just had a great season and we'd be foolish to think we can't do any better than that.
"So I'm not about to sell off all my best players if I can help it."
