Vahid vow threatens United bid

PARIS SAINT GERMAIN'S next coach Vahid Halilhodzic has pledged to do everything in his power to prevent Ronaldinho from departing for Manchester United.

After chairman Francis Graille revealed he had denied United the opportunity to discuss a blockbusting summer transfer for the Brazilian, Halilhodzic claims he will manage to hang onto a player he describes as a "genius".

With several Serie A clubs also casting envious glances towards the forward, it is expected that the former Gremio ace will head for a larger profile club in the summer.

Yet Halilhodzic, who will replace Luis Fernandez at the PSG helm, does not feel this will be the case.

"When I met the Canal+ (PSG's major shareholder) officials and my future chairman, the first thing I asked was if Ronaldinho could stay at Paris next season," he revealed.

"You can trust me. I will do everything to keep him.

"He is a genius.

"I always have the last word about the contracts.

"I decide who leaves and who stays, even if it is (Diego) Maradona or Pele.

"I will have a talk with him. If he will leave, it will mean something has happened and I will tell you what."
