Maloney breaks foot

SHAUN MALONEY has set his sights on being fit for Celtic`s pre-season campaign after tests confirmed he suffered a broken foot on Sunday.

The young forward suffered a hairline fracture of his fourth metatarsal following a robust challenge from Kilmarnock`s Alan Mahood at the weekend.

The 20-year-old will be on the easy list for around eight weeks but is hopeful of being fit for pre-season.

He said: "I didn't think it was as bad as it was when I came off, but I might have done more damage by staying on the pitch.

"I played on after the tackle and when I went to pass the ball using my right foot it was too much and I knew I wouldn't be able to play on.

"It was disappointing because the fact the manager had started me meant he had faith in my ability and it would have been nice to thank him for that with a good performance.

"It's frustrating but at least I won't be missing anything. I'm going to have a few weeks off just now and then I'll go back to the park and start working on it.

"Hopefully by pre-season there'll be no problems."
