Pirates poach Platt

BRISTOL ROVERS have snapped up striker Clive Platt on a free transfer from Third Division rivals Rochdale.

Platt has opted to snub the overtures of Rochdale, who were eager to keep the 25-year-old at Spotland, in favour of a reunion with Ray Graydon.

The imposing forward worked with the Pirates manager during their time at Walsall although Graydon did offload Platt to Rochdale.

Graydon revealed he had no hesitation in capturing Platt, who scored in three meetings against Rovers last season but ended the campaign on a three-month goal drought.

"He is big and strong and showed us this season exactly what he can do," Graydon told the club's official website.

"He is a player who I have kept an eye on and I feel that since he has been at Rochdale he has learned a great deal about football at this level and he is the kind of player we need.

"At 25, he is a good age and I am absolutely delighted to have him on board."

Platt will finalise his switch to the West Country upon the successful completion of a medical.
