Belmadi returns to Marseille

MANCHESTER CITY'S loan midfielder Djamel Belmadi has been told he will not be offered a permanent contract and will return to French side Marseille.

Citizens boss Kevin Keegan decided not to offer the Algerian schemer a longer deal after he arrived from Le Championnat side in January.

After making an impressive home debut in the 4-1 drubbing of Fulham, Belmadi only went on to make one more start during his five-month stay at Maine Road.

Injury also hampered the African star's progress, limiting him to just seven appearances in all.

In other news, Stuart Pearce has signed a new deal with Manchester City and will continue in a coaching role for another six months at least.

The 41-year-old led City to the Division One championship two seasons ago before taking up the offer of a one-year coaching contract.
