Hahnemann speaks of Fulham nightmare

READING keeper Marcus Hahnemann has claimed his move from MLS to Fulham turned out to be a nightmare, as he makes his long-awaited return to the US national team squad.

Hahnemann has returned to the US fold - after an absence of more than eight years - along with Joe Cannon and MetroStars keeper Tim Howard - soon to be a Manchester United player - for the US' clash with New Zealand and Confederations Cup tournament.

The American played for Colorado in MLS before moving to Fulham, a switch that was soon to lead to a number of shocks for Hahnemann.

"When I first got to Fulham, they were going through a lot of changes, having come up to the First Division really quickly," he said. "Guys were doing their own laundry from training. I was like 'you've got to be kidding me'.

"In MLS, although the pay might not be as good as some of the top places in Europe, you're treated like a professional. Everything is done top notch."

Having been a virtual spectator at Craven Cottage, Hahnemann was snapped up by Reading, where he was a major influence on their push into the play-offs, just missing out on what would have been a superb return to The Premiership.
