Marseille in for Nakata

MARSEILLE have expressed an interest in signing Parma midfielder Hidetoshi Nakata.

The Japan international has also been targeted by Chelsea, but is currently engaged in Confederations Cup combat with his country, and scored in the 3-0 win over New Zealand on Wednesday.

"There is a recent track that concerns Hidetoshi Nakata, but there remains the need to know the wage conditions of the player," confirmed Alain Perrin, the club's general manager.

"We made more contacts with left midfielders, and our discussions for a player like Daniel Moreira (Lens) are on stand-by, while the one for Stepan Vachousek (Slavia Prague) is more active.

"The current position Monaco have is that there can be a timelessness to enlist Jerome Rothen," he told Marseille's official website.

Nakata is due to leave Parma if a bid in the region of ‚é¼5 million is forthcoming, but he could remain in Serie A.

A meeting is scheduled to take place between l'OM and his representatives later this week.

"Fernando Morientes (Real Madrid) or John Carew (Valencia) were proposed to us," added Perrin.

"This would not be unpleasant to have Morientes up front, but we prefer first to devote our attention to the purchases.

"That allows us to gamble in the average term of time, this is to say two or three seasons."

It is understood that Morientes and Carew have been offered in loan deals to l'OM.
