Brass eyes three keepers

YORK CITY boss Chris Brass is eyeing three keepers, as he looks to bolster his squad for next season.

Out-of-contract former Reading goalkeeper Phil Whitehead tops the list, but Marlon Beresford and Steve Croudson have also been linked with the club.

Whitehead, 33, spent a month on loan at Bootham Crescent last term, making two League appearances for The Minstermen.

Former York boss Terry Dolan, who was sacked at the end of last season, had hinted that he was going to make a permanent bid for the player but his removal from the club may have scuppered Whitehead's chance of a move.

Like Whitehead, Beresford played for York last season, making six appearances before moving on to Burnley.

Former team-mate Brass is known to be an admirer of the shot-stopper.

He said: "I'm in the hunt for a keeper and naturally a player of Marlon Beresford's calibre interests me."

Former Grimsby Town keeper Coulsdon is clearly one for the future. He made his League debut for The Mariners aged just 19 but City already have young keeper David Stockdale on their books and so Brass may opt for a more experienced man at the back.
