Lescott to miss big kick-off

WOLVES have been handed a blow with the news that star defender Joleon Lescott will miss the start of the season.

The 20-year-old is set to be out of action for three months after undergoing operations on both his knees.

Lescott went under the knife just after the end of the season to clear up cartilage damage in both joints.

Wolves physio Barry Holmes admitted that the England Under-21 international faces a race against time for the big Premiership kick-off on August 16.

"Joleon was scheduled for surgery following the play-off final and after a few days to let the knees settle down, he went into the theatre on June 3," Holmes told the club's official website.

"Both operations went by without a hitch and he is in the first stages of rehabilitation and is recovering as well as can be expected.

"But whether or not he will be fit for the start remains to be seen."

The injury may force Wolves boss Dave Jones to think about bringing in a new defender as cover.
