Capucho can't wait for Gers debut

NUNO CAPUCHO says he will be fulfilling a life-time ambition when he makes his Rangers debut and that it is his destiny to triumph in Scotland.

The Portuguese international sealed his Ibrox switch last week for £750,000 from Porto and the former Sporting Lisbon star says he can not wait to endear himself to the blue half of Glasgow, after crushing the green half in the Uefa Cup final.

"I am destined to be the first Portuguese player to triumph in the Scottish Premier League," said the forward.

"I am going to fulfil a dream of my career to play in British football. This is the minimum thing for a football player.

"The Champions League is complicated, but it has different tests and is special from other competitions.

"I have won the Uefa Cup this year and I am already thinking about playing in the Champions League."

Capucho was instrumental in wrecking Celtic's quest for glory last term as part of the Porto side that beat The Bhoys 3-2 in the final in Seville and the ex-Vitoria Guimaraes star says he is looking forward to tasting the much famed Old Firm derby.

"I would pay to play in the derby of Glasgow," he added. "I have heard so many good things about these matches and that must be special for a foreign player.

"I am an honest player who always gives his all on the pitch. I never avoid the fight.

"That is what I promise to the supporters of Rangers. The success will come later.

"I know my players at Rangers and the main thing is that they are a compact group and not based on individuals like Celtic are with Henrik Larsson.

"I know we made the Rangers fans happy when we (Porto) beat them in the Uefa Cup. It is a subject that has been referred to me since I completed my transfer.

"The Scottish Premier League is not boring. It has a high level and has important players. I don't believe it is just a duel between Rangers and Celtic.

"The aerial play is one of my specialities. In Porto, they use to tell me my style was practically British.

"My objective for 2004 is to win the Scottish League and to play in the European Championships in Portugal.

"The coach Luis Filipe Scolari has said to me that he has me down for a place in the team."
