Heeroo`s international dilemma

THE MAURITIUS FA have asked Crystal Palace to release young midfielder Gavin Heeroo for the Indian Ocean Island games, which take place in August.

The 18-year-old was born in England but his parents come from the exotic island and he has previously trained with the Mauritius squad.

Palace are under no obligation to release their player, as the competition is not recognised as an official football tournament by Fifa.

Steve Kember's (pictured) side kick off next term's campaign against Burnley on August 9 and so Heeroo's release would certainly interfere with preparations for early season games.

However, the youngster is yet to make a first-team appearance and so a taste of international football might be of more use to Heeroo than a run out in the reserves.

Mauritius FA general secretary Sada Vuddamalay is aware of the difficult decision for both club and player.

He said: "The player is excited about wearing the Mauritian shirt but he has broken into the first-team squad at Crystal Palace and it will be the start of the new season, so it is a big dilemma."

Mauritius host the games which run from August 29 to September 7.
