Postiga completes Spurs switch

The North London club admitted to being in advanced talks with the 20-year-old on Tuesday and, as reported by planetfootball on Tuesday, both parties have been able to agree on a five-year contract, with the transfer fee likely to rise to £8.25 million, depending on appearances and team performance.

The signing of Postiga is a major coup for Spurs boss Glenn Hoddle, as the young hit-man was attracting serious interest from clubs across Europe.

A self-confessed Spurs fan, Postiga will look at his move to White Hart Lane as a dream come true, having impressed his new employers over the last year with his displays in last season's successful Uefa Cup campaign with Porto.

His form has led to Postiga earning his first full international cap with Portugal, scoring a brace in a 4-0 friendly victory over Bolivia.

Hoddle revealed his delight at completing the deal with Postiga, and will hope his arrival will provide Spurs with the necessary boost in firepower after a poor finish to last term from his team.

"He is a player who will add definite striking quality to our squad and is a young player of proven ability," Hoddle told Tottenham's official website.

"I'm sure our supporters will enjoy watching him over the coming seasons."

Spurs are still hunting another striker, after off-loading Teddy Sheringham, Sergei Rebrov and Les Ferdinand this year, with Frederic Kanoute of West Ham a chief target.
